Carillionamey - Patch Management



Improving the way we manage your patch

As part of the improvement plan, CarillionAmey have rolled out a new initiative which we are hoping will assist with better communication. Each Accommodation Officer (AO) is responsible for making regular checks on the Service Family homes and the surrounding communal areas for which they are responsible. They conduct regular inspections looking out for things such as graffiti, fallen trees, and potholes in roads. During their walk-around they also take a look at the exterior of properties, and may often notice things that families miss, such as a leaking drainpipe or blocked guttering and should alert the occupants so that a job can be raised.

Nowadays with so many families where both partners work, sometimes issues are identified when no one is home, and although the AO will raise the job with the Helpdesk, families may only find out about it when an engineer arrives to complete the job. We recognise that may be a concern for some families so CarillionAmey’s new patch management inspection card aims to solve this problem. Once the AO has identified an issue with the exterior of a property, the details will be completed on the card and posted through the letterbox, helping to prevent small repairs becoming bigger ones.

We have a variety of information that’s designed to help you to prepare for your Move in and help you to get the best out of it.
The CarillionAmey people that are key are our advisors at the Helpdesk who work in the Occupancy Services team, your Accommodation Officer who will be with you during the Move in appointment and our Local Customer Service advisors who are available to speak to you in person.

As part of our ongoing improvement plans, we are currently running a programme aimed at ensuring that our Move in preparation is consistently good throughout the country.  We are looking to make sure that all Move in activity provides the right level of cleaning and we are doing this by standardising all cleaning equipment and cleaning materials and making sure that we have effective supervision and that the same processes are being used by all of our suppliers across the country.

What’s in it for me?  Understanding the options to make informed choices now, and knowing what financial initiatives are available for the Armed Forces – such as the Forces Help to Buy Scheme, Help to Buy ISA, Affordable Housing Schemes, Buy-to-Let, and much more.
I’m in entitled Service Accommodation – I’ll think about it when I discharge!  That decision is a minimum of five years too late!  SLA charge vs. a rented 1-bed flat could be as much as five times more (500%) without bills!
It’s OK, my terminal benefit (lump sum) will buy a property!  No – it will barely cover a deposit these days!
I’ve done my Service duty and entitled to Social Housing – the Local Authority will help me, won’t they?  They will if they can, but Social Housing is not a lifestyle choice and is in very short supply.  All applications are assessed on housing priority need.  Singles, under 35 years of age will find it extremely difficult to get anything other than bedsit style accommodation.  Housing for large families is not easy to get.  There is just not enough social housing available.  Social housing should be the last.com resort not the first choice option.
Are JSHAO Housing Briefs only for those on Resettlement?   No, the JSHAO is the MOD’s tri-service focal point to provide Service Personnel and their entitled family member(s) with civilian housing information, and access to independent financial advice (through siiap.org) for those considering civilian accommodation at any time in their career, and for those during resettlement to assist with the transition to civilian life.

In January 2016 the Armed Forces Covenant was re-launched under a new, unified brand.

The new website lays out the support that is available to beneficiaries of the Covenant – current Regular and Reserve Service Personnel, Service families, former Service Personnel – with links to further information on individual Covenant measures on GOV.uk

The new website also contains information for supporters of the Covenant, including businesses, charities, the general public and local authorities, and regular news stories about how the Covenant is helping real people

Changes to Enhanced Learning Credit schemes

Enhanced Learning Credits, Further Education and Higher Education scheme changes
The MOD promotes learning among members of the armed forces and the veterans’ community by providing what are known as Learning Credits, through the Enhanced Learning Credits scheme and Further Education and Higher Educaion scheme.  Both of these entitle Service personnel and Service leavers to receive financial help with the cost of their learning.
From 1 April 2016 there will be some changes to the schemes to make them more accessible and to enable people to use them to gain personal and professional qualifications in a more flexible way, both while serving and after transition to civilian life.

Funding for courses when posted overseas - share your views with AFF poll

Current rules set by Student Finance England do not allow military spouses based overseas to access funding for training (a loan). AFF is keen to know whether military spouses based overseas would be more likely to undertake a distance learning course if the rules were changed to allow them access to funding from Student Finance England.

Count Them In
The Royal British Legion and its sister charity, Poppyscotland, have launched a campaign calling for additional questions to be included in the next census in 2021. These questions will seek to capture much needed data on the Armed Forces community - particularly Reservists and veterans, who are otherwise largely hidden from official statistics.
As you will be aware, unlike in the United States, the UK Government only really maintains records on Regulars and injured and pensionable veterans, whilst Reservists, ‘healthy’ working age veterans, and family members are generally missing from existing data collection methods. Sadly, even the data that we do have is rather patchy, providing no real indication as to the wellbeing and needs of this unique community. In contrast, we know a great deal about the UK’s Jedi community, as well as the numbers and location of our sheep and cattle.
In light of the above, the Legion and Poppyscotland have launched a new public-facing campaign. The campaign, which is called Count Them In, essentially seeks to establish a comprehensive snapshot of our Armed Forces community. By including questions about membership of the military community in the next census in 2021, we hope to not only develop agreater understanding of the needs, location and profile of the Armed Forces community, but also directly compare this group to their peers in the general population. This information will help the sector – local authorities, charities, statutory bodies - to more accurately identify areas where Service life presents a disadvantage, which will in turn enable the Government and other statutory providers to better allocate resources and deliver on their Armed Forces Covenant commitments.
How you can support ‘Count them in’:

2.    Encourage everyone you can to pledge their support individually as well.
The RBL believe that more accurate local data on the size and needs of the Armed Forces community will help ensure the Armed Forces Covenant delivers for our Armed Forces community and for everyone.
